Macchi MB.326H for SAAM
The museum recently acquired a Aermacchi Macchi MB.326H jet trainer which is now on display in the new museum.
The Macchi was used by the RAAF as its advanced jet trainer from 1968 until it was replaced by the Pilatus PC-9 in 1989. The Macchi was built under licence in Australia by CAC, with the RAAF operating 87 aircraft and the RAN 10 aircraft.
The museum's aircraft is A7-026 and is displayed in the distinctive trainer colours of orange and white. This particular aircraft was also operated by the Roulette aerobatic team during its service life.
The Macchi was powered by a Rolls-Royce Viper Turbojet producing 2500 lbs thrust with a maximum speed of 806 km/h.
