SAAM is a private museum run entirely by a small group of volunteer aviation enthusiasts. Our mission is to collect, preserve and display items that are particularly relevant to South Australia's rich Aviation (and Aerospace) History. SAAM is a fully accredited member of the History Trust of South Australia, Museums Australia and the Aviation Museum National Network. We are open every day of the year (except xmas day) from 10am to 4pm.
Most of the
27 aircraft on display and hundreds the other display items have a genuine South Australian connection. Many of them are unique to this museum. We have the first aircraft engine built in Australia, the first fixed wing aircraft to fly over the south pole, a genuine WW2 (Australian delivered) Mk-5 Spitfire, six RAAF ARDU aircraft, Woomera test rockets, and much more. We are open every day of the year (except xmas day) from 10am to 4pm.

The
Adelaide to Outer Harbour Greenway has now been re-opened behind SAAM. There is a short paved path from the greenway to SAAM providing easy access for pushbikes and pedestrians from Adelaide and Port Adelaide.

SAAM will have a
Open Cockpit and Engine Run Day on Sunday 27 October between 10am and 4pm (last entry 3pm please). Children will get free entry all day. There will be soft drinks and a sausage sizzle available. For more information about visiting SAAM,

SAAM's amazing new entrance sign is now in place at 16 Bedford Street. It was commissioned by the City of Port Adelaide and Enfield to be part of their street art trail and painted by Adelaide based artist Zhuzhu ( Guiyong Zhu). The artwork features SAAM's own Lockheed AP-3C Orion, one of our Woomera test rockets and our F-35 JSF Ironbird, on a background that is representative of our Port Adelaide location.
The Adelaide to Outer Harbour Greenway now runs between SAAM and the new rail line. The side path takes you directly to SAAM's front door. The Vickers Vimy mural can be seen again and will be very visible from the greenway and also from the trains. All in all, a very nice entrance to SAAM for pedestrians, cyclists and train travellers.
Recently, SAAM was gifted an item that is truly unique to South Australian aviation history, something we are thrilled to have – the route maps of Charles James 'Jimmy' Melrose. for more information on this donation, and Jimmy Melrose, vist SAAM's facebook page
