Planning a visit to the South Australian Aviation Museum is easy. SAAM is located in Port Adelaide, with two undercover hangars filled with aircraft, aviation displays, engines, rockets, memorabilia and stories from South Australia’s aviation history.
Visitors can explore the museum at their own pace, use the visitor guide map to see what is on display, and enjoy a relaxed visit with free parking, accessible facilities, drinks and snacks, and a gift and memorabilia shop onsite.

Opening hours
SAAM is open from 10am to 4pm every day except Christmas Day.
Last entry is usually 3pm, but this may be negotiable with desk staff.

Vehicle entrance is at 16 Bedford Street, Port Adelaide. Look for the large aircraft mural at the entrance, you can't miss it.
Parking
Free parking is available onsite.
SAAM is also easy to reach by public transport, with Port Dock Station and the Port Dock bus interchange nearby.
Getting here by train, bus or on foot
By train
Catch a train from Adelaide Railway Station to Port Dock Station. The train ride takes around 22 minutes, with trains departing Adelaide every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour.
SAAM is an easy 8 minute walk from Port Dock Station along Barlow Street.
By bus
Catch a bus to the bus interchange at Port Dock Railway Station.
Bus services include: 117, 118, 150, 230, 232, 252, 254, 333 and 361.
SAAM is an 8 minute walk from Port Dock Station and the bus terminal along Barlow Street.
Walking from Port Dock Station
From Port Dock Station (& Bus Terminal) walk along Barlow Street to reach SAAM. The walk usually takes around 8 minutes.
Accessibility
The museum floor is wheelchair accessible, with step-free access through the main display areas.
Accessible toilet facilities are available onsite.
Please note that aircraft interiors cannot be accessed by wheelchair.
Seating and rest areas are available throughout the museum.
Food, drinks and snacks
Drinks and snacks are available onsite.
Visitors are welcome to bring food and drinks, with tables and chairs available in a designated indoor area. Exterior picnic tables are also available in fine weather.
Food and drinks are not permitted in the display hangars.
Gift and memorabilia shop
SAAM has a gift and memorabilia shop onsite.
The shop may include aviation books, secondhand books, models and other memorabilia, depending on availability.
Photography and video
Photography and video are welcome inside the museum.
Some aircraft may also be available for filming purposes by arrangement. Please contact SAAM if you would like to discuss filming at the museum.
Families and children
SAAM welcomes families and visitors of all ages.
Children often enjoy the aircraft they can sit in and pretend to fly, as well as interactive displays, moving parts and videos. Younger children may also enjoy aircraft-style push carts when available.
Families can explore the museum at their own pace, use the visitor guide map, take breaks in the seating areas and visit the gift and memorabilia shop.

A visitor guide map is available at the museum.
The map shows the aircraft on display in both hangars and helps visitors move through the museum at their own pace. It also identifies aircraft that visitors may be able to enter.
Groups and guided tours
Groups are welcome at SAAM.
If you are bringing a group to the museum, please contact SAAM and make a booking. This helps the museum arrange enough volunteers to assist on the day.
Guided tours are available by appointment for small and large groups. Larger groups may require more than one tour guide.
Guided tours are led by trained museum guides from the SAAM membership. They provide deeper insight into the aircraft and displays, including stories and historical details that may not be available during a self-guided visit.
School and preschool groups
SAAM welcomes preschool groups, daycare groups, primary schools, secondary schools and special needs colleges.
School visits can support learning across aviation history, transport, engineering, science, technology, Australian history and South Australian heritage.
Guided educational tours may be available for groups, usually those larger than 10, depending on guide availability. Teachers, carers and school staff remain responsible for student supervision during the visit.
